World's top scariest cliff walks (1)

If you’re not afraid of heights, You may willing to go these most incredible (and mortifying) places to stand and try to look down.

1. Prekestolen, also known by the English translations of Preacher's Pulpit or Pulpit Rock, is a famous tourist attraction in Norway. It consists of a steep cliff which rises 1982 feet above Lysefjorden, opposite the Kjerag plateau, with an almost flat top of approximately 82 by 82 feet.
2. Kjerag. is a Norwegian mountain. It is possible to walk onto the rock without any equipment, but there is a direct 241 m drop below and then another 735m gradient down to Lysefjorden. The name means "Kjerag Boulder" or "Kjerag Bolt".

3. Trolltunga is a piece of rock hanging horizontally out of a mountain about 700 metres (2,300 ft) above the north side of the lake Ringedalsvatnet in the municipality of Odda in Hordaland county, Norway. The cliff is located east of the Skjeggedal area. The name translated to English is The Troll's tongue.
4. Potato Chip Rock is located at the peak of Mount Woodson in Poway, California. Recently, the hike has become popular due hikers posting creative images on Facebook and Instagram. The hike is approximately 8 miles roundtrip, and during the summer months, it is recommended to start early in the morning due to Poway's hot desert climate.
5. The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a transparent horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge and tourist attraction in Arizona near the Colorado River on the edge of a side canyon in the Grand Canyon West area of the main canyon. USGS topographic maps show the elevation at the Skywalk's location as 4,770 ft and the elevation of the Colorado River in the base of the canyon as 1,160 ft, and they show that the height of the precisely vertical drop directly under the skywalk is between 500 ft and 800 ft .

Falkirk Wheel

Falkirk Wheel is the world's first and only boat lift. This engineering feat to Fox River (Forth), Clyde River (Clyde) and the Union Canal (The Union Canals) linking structure is a beautiful balance of both a viable solution , but also an art.
Falkirk Wheel is actually a big wheel, a symmetrical sink that can be closed is in each side.
When the boats need to drive to the low canal, the ship just need to aqueduct into the sink, and the sink will be closed, then the big wheel can turn a half circle to the low water level of the ship canal . Huge rotating bridge crane is equipped with 10 water pressure pumps can in 15 minutes , the four ships ( including water ) to 35 m lifting height  .

At the same time, the other lifting arm will put down four ships. Because the entrie unit on both side of the tank is symmetrical, so after the boats went in, the weight of tank is nearly same on both sides. So the energy or power that needed is not very large. The Falkirk wheel greatly reduced the time that boats need to use between two canals that have a height difference. So the Falkirk Wheel is called a marvel of the 21st century engineering.

It's so amazing!

You can either travel or read, but either your body or soul must be on the way

This is a dialogue in the movie "Roman Holiday",  it sounds simple but hard to do. So even if I prefer traveling much than reading, I spend more time on reading, cause reading doesn't cost me a lot money and energy.

But I have to say my several traveling experiences in America are very impressed. The first time I have been to Los Angeles, me and my friends spent three days in Disney Land, it was the first time to go to Disney, it feels like childhood dreams came true. In the Disney land I can forget everything, play from day to night and without pressure.  I think this is the difference between "travelling for pleasure" and "traveling for scenery". When we travelling for pleasure, we are seeking thrill and excitement, although these kind of feeling cannot keep unchanged, it can be beautiful firework in my life.

At the summer 2's end, I will start my new travel with my friends, we will go to Yellowstone National Park and  Grand Canyon, this may be my last time travelling in U.S., I'm really looking forward to the trip, I hope to discovery American natural scenery and feeling a different mental state. During these two years, I'm really exciting to find the difference between China and America, from people to culture, from customs to sceneries.

My mom always told me: "I don't care what kind of book you want to read, but you have to read" and "As a young girl you should walk around and travelling, then you can open your mind and widen you horizons." I can thank my mom for teaching me to be a girl with my own ideas through this way.

About Myself

Hello here is Amy's blog.

My real name is Siyu He, Amy is my American name. I'm young college girl from Shanghai China and I'm studying for my MBA in Rider University.

Basically my life is a simple life, Studying is the most important part in my life, it doesn't mean that I like studying, most often we do one thing is not because we want to do it, it's about our responsibility and mission. But during the studying I learned lots of knowledge that not only can be used in future work but also in daily life so I think these two years are very fulfilling of my life.

Expect taking classes and preparing  projects, I love listening music, watching TV serials and movies and traveling.

Talking about music, my musical taste is very "bipolar", I only like two kind of music: one is English pop music (U.S.& U.K.), the other music type is traditional or ancient style Chinese music. The English pop music can make me feel energetic and full of power, like I can do anything I want, so basically I listen this kind of music when I'm doing homework or in the gym. On he other hand, the ancient style Chinese music can make me calm down when I need the power of peace, and I can find emotional resonance with them, enjoying a free time.

About TV serials and movies, I prefer U.K.'s TV serials and U.S. movies. Based on my watching experience, the U.K.'s serials are more intellectual and have serious story structure, their story ranges are also very wide. Like literary classics "Pride and Prejudice", "Sherlock Holmes"; the current politics play like "Yes, prime minister"/ "Yes minister", "Allo Allo", and the famous "black mirror"  was talking about humanity and society. They are totally different from Americans TV serials. In my opinion, Americans TV serials are decide by audience, if audience like it, then scriptwriter will keep talking the story, if audience don't like it, then the serials will be cut. In my viewpoint, the best part of American TV serials are the first three seasons, after the first three seasons, the scriptwriter would talk the story in free ways, and get boring (Not every American TV serials, but some of them).

Maybe next time I will talk about U.K. TV serials in details.

China is foodie's China

As a Chinese so far from home, sometimes the most difficult thing is not busy work or culture shock, is the memories of food, those familiar and strange tastes etched in my mind and haunting me all night.

In the winter of 2012, CCTV (China Central Television) hit a series documentary called “A Bite of China,” this series documentaries are talking about history of food, eating, cooking and the relationship between Chinese normal people and their food.

There are seven episodes in Season 1, they are:
  1. Gifts from Nature (Gifts from nature)
  2. The Story of Staple Foods (The Story of Staple Foods)
  3. Inspiration for Change ( Inspiration for Change )
  4. The Taste of Time - This episode focuses on the different preservation techniques and preserved food across the regions ( The taste of Time)
  5. Secrets of the Kitchen ( Secrets of the kitchen )
  6. A Perfect Blend of Five Flavors ( A perfect Blend of Five Flavors )
  7. Our Farm( Our Farm)
These documentaries list so many different food and eating habits throughout China, mixed the wisdom and skill of traditional culture and modern civilization, it showed China as a big country of food, her customs and nature, tradition and creativity; In deep, they are talk about the relationship between human and nature, creativity, skills and tradition. The pictures in the documentaries can mobilize my all taste senses and emotions, every time I watch them (yes I watched them many times), my saliva and tears are running together, saliva is for the food, tears is because missing my family dishes and my parents.

Another thing that touching me most is that almost every people in the story are all working very hard for their lives, for their family and happiness. When they enjoy their fruits of labour, their smile can touch everyone, which also remind me my parents' cooking. The memory imprinted on my tongue, will always lead me back to home.

"No matter how time changes, no matter how different between people's ideological positions or interests, the China on the tip of tongue is always ours; and only on this issue, the people in mainland, in Taiwan, even in Outer Mongolia can reach a consensus."-----A Douban user.
